September 2, 1990 An Eyewitness Account of the Crash |
We would like to thank George N. Pantoulas in Greece who provided this eyewitness account of a UFO crash, and hope to hear more from him on UFOs in Greece.
About 03.00 hours that night, shepherds and some villagers observed a small group of 5 - 6 UFOs aproaching the area from North. One of them had an unstable flight and seemed to be having a problem. Strange lightnings came out of UFO's fuselage, but without any noise.
A shepherd who witnessed the crash told me that suddenly the troubled UFO lost height and crashed to the ground about a distance of about 500 metres away from him. He didn't hear any noise but a fire started burning the bushes. The shepherd was very afraid to get closer and stayed in his position watching the phenomenon.
The rest of the UFO's group stopped over the "accident" spot and 2 of them landed near the destroyed UFO. In a few minutes the fire in the bushes was terminated (probably the crews of the landed UFOs stopped the fire). For the rest of the night, until dawn, there was an unusual amount of traffic from the ground to the flying UFOs. Light spots (something like small space rafts??) went up and down, probably collecting the pieces of the destroyed UFO and the bodys(?) of the crew. They finished the collection before sunrise and after that the rest of UFOs took flight and were lost in the sky!
Meanwhile all the villagers woke up and saw the whole operation.
Early in the morning the villagers went to the spot and they saw on the ground a burned oval, a cut pine tree (it is still in place), and very small metalic pieces and pieces of wires around. Some of the them collect a number of pieces. One strange observation was that at the edges of the burned oval, the fire stopped like it was cut by a knife!
Some hours later a team of Hellenic Air Force personnel came in the area and told to the villagers that is nothing serious, maybe a Soviet sattelite crashed or a plane! They took some pieces of the UFO too and left the area.
One of the villagers sent a piece of the UFO to a Space Research Institute in Brussels, and they replyed to him that the item came definitely from space!
